It’s slow on start-up because of all the touch screen programs that initiate when you turn it on.

The battery dies quickly. I figured that after a while laptop batteries start to go anyway so how long they last doesn’t matter that much, but this thing drains quick. It says three hours, well if you’re lucky and have everything on power saver and don’t touch it maybe. You can get a similar or better laptop for under $700 with the i5 processor, and the touch screen isn’t really worth it.

I don’t like the way the keys feel either. But that’s just a personal preference.

On the lighter side, it does what a computer should do. Not really fast, but I could play MW2 with high settings and no lag.

I feel that the other reviews on this laptop are bias, they are too good to be true. I feel as if I overpaid and and not happy with this purchase and apparently would not recommend it. :(

What a great value! This is a great computer at a great price. The touchscreen feature is great and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!

This computer has features that only other much more expensive computers have, including Nvidea Graphic, i5 CPU, touchscreen, HDMI, several USB ports, multicard memory reader, camera… I’m sure I’m missing some things..

It also has a great keyboard and the mousepad works well, the mousebuttons are not to hard to push (many other new laptops require a firm “click” that leads to repetitive stress issues.

    I couldn’t be happier.

OH.. and the AC adapter plugs into the side, not the back, so it’s less likely to be broken when picking up the laptop.

Not that it has anything to do with the computer, but I must take a moment to tell everyone how much I hate UPS shipping. I am frequently reluctant to purchase anything from Amazon simply because they use UPS, for some reason UPS does not like to actually deliver the packages that are sent to me and I sit around all day waiting to sign for the package only to have the driver drive right by my house… leading to me having to take a trip to the UPS shipping office to pick up the package….

Just bought this laptop. I was torn between the iPad, netbook, or a laptop, so I went for the laptop since I could do more with it. Wanted a touch screen because I don’t like using the little pad on laptops. My daughter also likes this computer and my neighbor bought a touch screen too. The screen responds well. Sometimes I have to touch it twice because I may not have touched it in the right spot the first time. I don’t mind, it’s not a big deal. It responds quickly and I can stretch or shrink the screen.

Great buy. I was skeptical as well considering it was an expensive laptop, and had very few reviews. I was suprised with the level of speed it plays games. I have StarCraft2 running at Ultra High everthing and it runs smooth as glass. Beautiful screen, great sound. The touch screen is on point and precise. Highly recomended. Thanks

Amazing quality touch screen for this price… I was so skeptical given the price for a touch screen laptop and it’s just perfect. It looks just like a traditional 15.6″ computer until you start using the touch screen. Then you realize it’s a whole different experience. Your screen is not just there showing you information but everything on the screen -and I mean everything- reacts to your fingers. I’ve been using it for about a week and I’m still amazed.

Pros: quality touchscreen, numeric keypad, really fast

    Cons: none so far…

I totally recommend this laptop. Under $900 this is definitely a steal.

    UPDATE:

After 2 months, I’m still amazed everyday and all my colleagues love it and agree this is a great value.

    * My battery last around three hours (more when i don’t use it continuously). But I have to say I don’t play games or movies so I cannot comment on that; I mostly use it for internet (70% of the time) or Office applications (25%); I do watch some videos online and still get the three hours.

    * The start-up process is around 2 minutes, which for me is quite fast compared to my previous laptops (I change computer every year btw), but i guess my previous computers were slow mainly because of windows vista. Switching applications or users on this computer is wayy faster than all my previous computers.

    * I’ve noticed that not all of the functions of the touchscreen work when the computer wakes from sleep or hibernation mode. I figured out it’s because the touchscreen driver is deactivated when the computer enters sleep or hibernation mode. Here what you need to do. Right click Computer, click Manage, click Device Manager, expand Human Interface Devices, right click Multitouch Digizer, click Properties, go to the Power management tab and deactivate the option “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.

About the touchscreen, here is what I think. If you’re not a touchscreen person I would NOT recommend this computer to you because you’ll be wasting $200. You can find this exact same laptop without the touchscreen feature at around $700. Just look up the model without PG at the end (Acer Aspire AS5745); only the touchscreen makes the difference between the AS5745PG and the AS5745. I love touchscreens and for me the touchscreen feature is sooo worth it, I’ll definitely pay more than $200 to have it, especially given that it works flawlessly on this computer for such a new technology.

Bottom line, this is a matter of person preferences, either you like or you don’t like touchscreens; if you don’t, save yourself 200 bucks; if you do, do not hesitate one second, you’ll love this computer.
